About Lane Steel Company Inc.
Company History: Since its inception in 1982 as a small family-owned business in the heart of Sewickley, PA, Lane Steel has evolved into a major flat-rolled steel distributor and service center. Operating out of the historical Lockhart Complex just outside of Pittsburgh along the Ohio River, the company today spans 375,000 square feet and employs more the 60 people. Al Gedeon, Lane Steel founder and chairman, utilized a career‘s worth of experience in the steel industry to build the company’s foundation.
Al’s commitment to success, and loyalty to his customers and vendors, earned him a foot-hold in a growing steel market. In the early 1990’s, Lane Steel moved to the Lockhart Complex and acquired a slitter and blanking line, more than tripling in size and scope. Al retired in 1994, stayed on as company chairman and handed day-to-day operations over to his sons, Paul and Michael. Under their leadership, the company continued to establish itself as a reliable steel distributor and service center.
In the early 2000s, Lane Steel acquired the Lockhart Complex, adding a newly-constructed 46,000-square-foot warehouse. Lane Steel has increased in stature as well size. In May of 2003, Paul received the Western PA Entrepreneurial Success Award for his “foresight, innovation, leadership, and work ethic”, from Small Business Advocates. That same year, Lane Steel was accredited for implementing an internationally-recognized quality management program.
Today, we utilize some of the most current technologies in accordance with ISO 9001:2008 standards.
